RECOVER
Research Committee
Advancing Evidence-Based Veterinary CPR
RECOVER recognizes the critical need for high-quality, collaborative research to advance cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in veterinary medicine. The RECOVER Research Committee provides scientific leadership and oversight to ensure that research supported by the RECOVER initiative is rigorous, ethical, and aligned with the mission of improving outcomes for veterinary patients experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest.

What is the role of the RECOVER Research Committee?
The Research Committee is responsible for guiding, evaluating, and supporting research efforts that address critical knowledge gaps identified in the RECOVER Guidelines. Through structured oversight and collaboration, the Committee works to ensure that research findings meaningfully inform clinical practice and future guideline updates.
What does the RECOVER Research Committee do?
Scientific Oversight
The Research Committee provides scientific review and guidance for RECOVER-affiliated research initiatives, including: Clinical trials, Prospective and observational studies, Registry-based research, Methodological and reporting standards.
The Committee ensures that proposed research questions are relevant, feasible, and aligned with RECOVER’s evidence-based framework.
Identification of Knowledge Gaps
In collaboration with guideline authors and subject matter experts, the Research Committee:
- Identifies gaps in current veterinary CPR evidence.
- Prioritizes research questions with high potential clinical impact.
- Aligns research priorities with RECOVER Guideline updates.
Trial and Study Review
For RECOVER-sponsored or endorsed studies, the Committee:
- Reviews study concepts and protocols
- Provides feedback on study design, feasibility, and endpoints.
- Ensures consistency with ethical and scientific best practices.
- The Committee does not replace institutional regulatory bodies but works alongside them to promote high standards of ethical research conduct.
Facilitation of Collaboration
The Research Committee actively supports collaboration by:
- Connecting investigators, trial sites, and working groups.
- Promoting multicenter and interdisciplinary studies.
- Encouraging participation from academic, private practice, and international partners.
Integration with RECOVER Guidelines
A core function of the Committee is to ensure that research outcomes:
- Inform future RECOVER Guideline revisions.
- Improve CPR training, protocols, and implementation.
- Translate into meaningful improvements in patient outcomes.
What competencies do RECOVER Committee Members bring to the table?
Members are selected to ensure diverse perspectives and representation across practice settings. The RECOVER Research Committee is composed of veterinarians and scientists with expertise in:
- Emergency and critical care
- Cardiopulmonary physiology
- Clinical trial design, translational research, and biostatistics
- Research methodology and ethics
