Do I need prior CPR experience to take RECOVER courses?
No prior CPR training or emergency experience is required. RECOVER courses are designed for veterinary professionals at all experience levels, including veterinarians, technicians/nurses, assistants, students, and support staff.
What’s the difference between BLS and ALS?
Basic Life Support (BLS) covers the foundational CPR skills needed to recognize cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate effective CPR. Advanced Life Support (ALS) builds on BLS and includes advanced topics such as ECG interpretation, drug therapy, defibrillation, and team dynamics.
Which course should I start with?
RECOVER CPR – BLS (Basic Life Support) Course is the recommended starting point for all learners. Completion of this course is required before enrolling in the RECOVER CPR – ALS (Advanced Life Support) Course.
Are the courses fully online?
Yes, the RECOVER CPR – BLS and ALS courses are fully online and self-paced.
How long do the courses take to complete?
Both the RECOVER CPR – BLS (Basic Life Support) Course and the RECOVER CPR – ALS (Advanced Life Support) Course take approximately 3 hours each to complete. Both courses are self-paced and can be completed on your own schedule.
How long is the certification valid?
RECOVER online certifications are valid for 2 years. Learners can maintain certification by completing the recertification courses before expiration.
Is RECOVER certification recognized?
Yes. RECOVER CPR certification is the only veterinary CPR certification recognized by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and endorsed by the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.

What is the next step once I complete my BLS & ALS online courses?
After completing the online courses, learners can attend an in-person RECOVER Rescuer Workshop to become a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer® and/or RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer®.
Do you offer hands-on training?
Yes! RECOVER offers hands-on veterinary CPR training through both RECOVER BLS/ALS Rescuer Workshops and RECOVER BLS/ALS Instructor Workshops.
