How Certification Works

RECOVER certification signifies one’s knowledge and skills are up to date with current evidence-based guidelines. RECOVER offers certification for veterinary professionals in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) through a 2-step process involving online and in-person training. Certification is maintained by completing the online recertification course every 2 years. Veterinary professionals may also become certified RECOVER BLS and ALS instructors through an additional certification process.

Online Course Certificates of Completion

Step 1: Complete the online course in RECOVER Basic Life Support

  • Completion results in
    • Digital certificate of completion
    • Access to exclusive BLS content on the RECOVER website (recoverinitiative.org)

Step 1: Complete the online course in RECOVER Advanced Life Support

  • Prerequisites
    • Certificate of Completion for Online Course in RECOVER Basic Life Support
  • Completion results in
    • Digital certificate of completion
    • Access to exclusive ALS content on the RECOVER website (recoverinitiative.org).

RECOVER Certified Rescuer

Step 1: Complete the online course in RECOVER Basic Life Support (as noted above)

Step 2: Obtain Certification as a RECOVER Basic Life Support Rescuer

  • Successfully complete the in-person RECOVER CPR BLS Certification Course
  • Prerequisites
    • Certificate of Completion for Online Course in RECOVER Basic Life Support
  • Completion results in
    • Digital certificate of completion for RECOVER CPR BLS training
    • Digital “RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer” badge
    • Access to BLS certified veterinary professional content on RECOVER website (recoverinitiative.org)
    • Qualifying for in-person training in RECOVER Advanced Life Support

Step 3: Maintenance of Certification Status

  • Successfully complete the online RECOVER CPR BLS Recertification Course every 2 years. (coming soon)

Step 2: Obtain Certification as a RECOVER Advanced Life Support Rescuer

  • Successfully complete the in-person RECOVER CPR ALS Certification Course
  • Prerequisites
    • Certificate of Completion for Online Course in RECOVER Basic Life Support
    • Certificate of Completion for Online Course in RECOVER Advanced Life Support
    • Obtain certification as a RECOVER Basic Life Support Rescuer
  • Completion results in
    • Digital certificate of completion for RECOVER CPR ALS training
    • Digital “RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer” badge
    • Access to ALS certified veterinary professional content on RECOVER website
    • Qualifying for certification as a RECOVER certified BLS Instructor
  • Eligibility to become a RECOVER CPR instructor

RECOVER Certified Instructor

Step 1: Certify as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer and a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer

Step 2: RECOVER Basic Life Support Instructor Certification

  • Successfully complete the in-person RECOVER BLS Instructor Certification Course
    • Instructor certification courses
    • Prerequisites
      • Current certificates as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer and a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer
      • Active license as a veterinarian or credential as a veterinary technician/nurse
    • Teaching experience recommended
  • Completion results in
    • Digital certificate of competence as a RECOVER CPR BLS Instructor
    • Digital “RECOVER Certified BLS Instructor” badge
    • Access to certified BLS instructor content on RECOVER website
    • Qualifying for certification as a RECOVER certified ALS Instructor

Step 3: Maintenance of Certification Status

  • Maintain BLS instructor certification status through recertification with RECOVER every 2 years. (Coming soon)

Step 1: Certify as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer and a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer

Step 2: RECOVER Basic Life Support Instructor Certification

Step 3: RECOVER Advanced Life Support Instructor Certification

  • Successfully complete the in-person RECOVER CPR ALS Instructor Certification Course
  • Completion results in
    • Paper certificate of competence as a RECOVER CPR ALS instructor
    • Digital “RECOVER Certified ALS Instructor” badge
    • Access to certified ALS instructor content on RECOVER website

Step 4: Maintenance of Certification Status

  • Maintain ALS instructor certification status through recertification with RECOVER every 2 years. (Coming soon)
